Best ClassDojo Alternatives in 2026
ClassDojo is one of the most widely used classroom apps in the world. It's free for teachers, it's great for parent
communication, and millions of classrooms use its points system every day.
So why are so many teachers searching for a ClassDojo alternative? The reasons we hear most often:
- Students outgrow it. A point going up is exciting in second grade. By middle school, many students shrug.
- The novelty wears off. Points alone rarely keep a class motivated for a whole school year.
- Teachers want more than a tally. They want something that feels like a game, not a scoreboard.
- Some schools already have a PBIS platform and are looking for a single school-wide system.
In this article we'll look at the best alternatives, what each one is good at, and who it's for.
Full disclosure: ClassMana is our product. We've tried to be fair to every tool on this list, including when another
one is the better choice for you. Last updated: October 2026. Features and prices change, so check each vendor's
website.
What to look for in a ClassDojo alternative
Before comparing tools, decide what problem you're actually trying to solve:
- Do you need parent communication? ClassDojo's family messaging is one of its biggest strengths. If that's the main thing you use, most "alternatives" won't replace it, and you might keep ClassDojo for messaging.
- Is this for your classroom, or for the whole school? Some tools are built for one teacher. Others are bought by a school to run PBIS across every classroom.
- How old are your students? Older students need more depth and progression to stay engaged.
- How much time do you have? A tool you can run in seconds during a lesson beats a powerful one you'll stop using by November.
- What does it cost, and who pays? Free tools, teacher plans and school licenses all exist.
1. ClassMana: best for engagement that lasts all year
ClassMana turns classroom management into an actual game. Instead of a point total, students
have an animated 3D avatar they customize and level up. They earn Experience for positive behavior, unlock new
gear across 35 levels, and spend mana on powers: real classroom perks you choose, like picking their seat or
listening to music during work time.
It also has a full set of game mechanics that you can introduce step by step:
- Health & warnings for unwanted behavior, with redemption instead of punishment
- Gold and a class shop for academic achievements
- Teams where students help each other
- Monster Battle: a 3D boss battle for test review
- Silence Challenge: a dragon-themed noise monitor that went viral on TikTok
- Mystery Events, a random student picker, timer and stopwatch
- Quests (optional add-on): self-paced learning adventures with branching paths and auto-graded quizzes
ClassMana was built by a game developer, and it shows: the visuals feel like the games students play at home. That's why
it works especially well with upper elementary, middle school and high school students, and it's even used in
university courses. Over 95,000 teachers have signed up.
Privacy: students log in with a name and login code. No student emails or personal information are needed.
Pricing: the classroom tools (Monster Battle, Silence Challenge, Mystery Event, Random Student, Timer, Stopwatch)
are free. You can try a full class for 3 weeks. Premium starts at $65 per year per teacher, and there's a school plan
from $1 per student per year. See pricing.
Best for: teachers who want students to stay motivated all year, especially with older students.
Keep in mind: ClassMana doesn't do parent messaging or school-wide discipline tracking. Many teachers keep their
existing tool for parent communication and use ClassMana in class.
2. Critter Coin: best gamified school-wide house system
Critter Coin is a school-wide PBIS platform with a strong game layer. Students earn coins for Houses that compete
over recurring rounds, there's a rewards store, and premium add-ons include virtual pets, a shared 3D world for the
class and quests. It's set up by the school, and parents can get access with an add-on.
Pricing: a free core (houses and rewards store, up to a coin limit), with paid add-ons per month.
Best for: schools that want a gamified, school-wide house system.
Keep in mind: it's designed around the whole school and its houses rather than one teacher's class. The game layer
centers on coins, houses and pets, rather than a personal avatar that each student customizes and levels up. Several
features are separate monthly add-ons, so check the total price.
3. LiveSchool: best school-wide PBIS platform with clear pricing
LiveSchool is built for schools running PBIS. Staff award points against a behavior matrix, students spend them in a
school rewards store, and there are house points, family engagement features, referral documentation and dashboards for
administrators. Unusually, LiveSchool publishes its pricing on its website.
Best for: schools and districts that want one PBIS system across every classroom, with data for the PBIS team.
Keep in mind: it's bought by the school, not by individual teachers, and the focus is on tracking and data rather
than on a game students play.
4. PBIS Rewards: best for PBIS with referral tracking
PBIS Rewards is another school-wide PBIS system: points, a rewards store, house groups, a family app and an optional
behavior referral add-on for office referrals. Pricing is quote-based.
Best for: schools that want PBIS points and referral management in one system.
Keep in mind: like LiveSchool, it's a school purchase, and it isn't designed as a game for students.
5. ClassBank: best for a classroom economy and financial literacy
ClassBank turns your class into an economy: students have bank accounts, classroom jobs with salaries, bills and a class
store. It has a free teacher plan and a paid Pro plan.
Best for: teachers who want to teach money skills alongside behavior management.
Keep in mind: it's an economy simulation, not a game with avatars, levels or battles.
What about Classcraft?
Classcraft was the original classroom RPG, with avatars, powers and boss battles. It was discontinued in 2024. If you
loved Classcraft, read our guide to the best Classcraft alternatives.
